My Weenie Dogs (Dachshunds)

Bunny, our youngest black and tan dachshund (Steven R. Green)

Bunny, our youngest little human wanna-be…

This page is a gratuitous homage to my lovable, child-like, and slightly off-balanced herd of Dachshunds.   There’s Mike, our adopted miniature tan short-hair male dachshund, Bubbles, our older black and tan miniature (I use the term loosely as evidenced by her photos) female, and last, but certainly not least, Bunny, our 18 month old miniature black and tan female weenie.

Bubbles, the matriach of the brood of pint-sized hooligans…

Aside from the stripper names for the females (which oddly my wife gave them), they are otherwise your normal dog family unit.  None are related to Bubbles, hovering around 12, our oldest and the matriarch of the assembled group.  Bubbles has grown a bit impatient with age and growls with indifference at Mike’s romantic advances.  She wants nothing to do with anything that has fur, and pines (read: whines) daily for the attention she received as a puppy.  Bubbles is quite obsessed with playing fetch, and any playtime with her is pretty much non-stop throw, chase, and beg her to return the item back.  Typically, you have to get it back from her and if you are not fast enough, she just barks and whines until you pick up whatever the item is and throw it again…and again…and again.

Mike, slightly off but entirely lovable…

Mike is your typical teenage dog, who has pretty much one thing on his mind.  Since Bubbles is not event remptely interested, Mike previously spent his pre-Bunny days follwoing Bubbles around several paces behind.  In his frustration of being kicked out of the dog house by Bubbles, Mike learned to remove all of the blankets from former home to ensure that Bubbles was a miserable as she made him feel.

Another impromptu portait of Bunny…

And then, there is Bunny, our latest addition.  Bunny is an extremely energetic little pup who at four months has already nearly outgrown her housemates.  Bunny’s dad was a full -size, and we expect her to keep growing a few more months.  She is the apple of Mike’s eye, and the two have hit it off famously.  Bunny gets a little more couch time than the other two, but the only one who seems to mind is Bubbles.  Mike and Bunny play for hours on end, and when Mike gets tired or needs a break, he climbs out onto the dividing wall of our swimming pool/spa; his way of working in the garage when mamma won’t leave him alone.

By the way, the girls really don’t have stripper names.  Bubbles was named for a Power Puff Girl years ago, and Bunny got her moniker from a toy armadillo that our grandson thinks is a bunny….
